FAQ
  • What model surf ski would suit me best?
A quick reference guide: If performance, stability and agility is your goal the Nemesis surf ski is the best option, featuring a lower center of gravity and lower volume overall to make it more suitable for all paddlers seeking more stability without compromising on speed or performance. This now the only single surf ski we offer for production as it supersedes our previous surf ski models. If you find a second hand Tomahawk for sale then it would be good to consider this surf surf ski if performance is entirely your thing, it is great for advanced paddlers. Some of these surf skis will have different cockpit set ups. If you are looking at a second hand Raptor for sale then consider this if stability and ease of paddling are your main requirements then this may be best for you. The Nemesis available in fixed length and adjustable. Based off our popular Tomahawk model this surf ski is designed for paddlers who crave stability without sacrificing speed. With a lower center of gravity and overall volume, this ski offers the perfect balance of stability and performance. The Nemesis features more tail rocker for improved control in and out of the break, making it ideal for navigating rough waters. With arguably the tightest turning circle of any surf ski on the market. Over five years of feedback from paddlers and our own testing we then set to work to design the latest model the Tomahawk. This ski, aimed at advanced paddlers has a more substantial bow line and a much fuller tail to allow it to punch through surf and heavy chop with even greater resistance to becoming 'airborne' or 'stalling' on the way in. The aggressive cockpit deflector keeps the water off your chest, and out of the seat and heel area very effectively. A greater curve through the fore section of the hull allows for a softer ride on cross chop and the increased 'rocker' improves surfing ability, handling in big surf and tight turning capability. The Raptor was the first original model. Our aim was to create a dynamic design to not only be the fastest Surf Lifesaving Australia specification ski on the market, but also have unparalleled performance in and out of the surf break, through the choppy water and downwind.
  • How do I submit my personalized ski design?

  • What is the difference between the Raptor and the Tomahawk?
The Raptor was the first original model. Our aim was to create a dynamic design to not only be the fastest Surf Lifesaving Australia specification ski on the market, but also have unparalleled performance in and out of the surf break, through the choppy water and downwind. This was also the design platform for the later and more aggressive Enforcer model. A greater curve through the fore section of the hull allows for a softer ride on cross chop and the increased 'rocker' improves surfing ability, handling in big surf and tight turning capability. A quick reference guide: If stability and ease of paddling are your main requirements then the Raptor with a deeper cockpit setup may be best for you. If performance is entirely your thing, then the Tomahawk is the latest and greatest. Talk to us about the cockpit set up on both models.
  • Which colours are best to use on my ski?
Anyone who has followed us on social media or walked the beach at a surf carnival will know we are not afraid to go all out with colour and design. However, Surf Lifesaving specification skis can have a hard life out in the elements and with general use, so common sense should prevail. A bright and intricate design may look great but can be problematic should the ski ever need repair. It will also usually incur additional cost on top of a standard build. Darker colours will tend to show scratches and scuffs for more visibly than lighter colours. We recommend our customers choose 2-3 lighter colours to make up their design and we are happy to help with your decisions. Surf Lifesaving requirements stipulate a contrast of colour at the nose and tail of the craft if the craft is not already of an approved colour. More details of this are available on the SLSA website or by contacting us directly. All of our skis come standard in a gel coat finish which is marine specific and more durable for surf use than an automotive paint finish as found on some other brands. You can access our colour chart here.

  • How do I measure my leg length?
Every surf ski manufacturer has their own unique measuring system and are not universal across different brands of surf skis. The best and most accurate way to work out your size in a custom or fixed length BOS ski is to sit in a BOS measuring jig or another BOS ski for the correct length. Our measuring jigs are located throughout Australia and internationally. Contact us to find out where the nearest BOS jig is to your location. *Please note that seat depth will alter your actual jig measurement. This will be adjusted accordingly for each order submitted.
  • Which surf ski construction is best for me?
Standard Our Standard construction is what we would deem as 'fir for purpose' for Sur Lifesaving specification performance. The construction is a vinylester resin, vacuum bagged laminate featuring a kevlar eglass hull and eglass deck with kevlar and carbon reinforcement through the stress points. Being able to monitor hundreds of our products in use over a long period of time has allowed us to fine tune all construction methods and materials to bring you the most durable and reliable build possible that also feels best on the water. Pro The Pro build is the combination of carbon and kevlar hull and standard deck. This gives the ski added stiffness throughout and greater compression strength when experiencing heavy impact. This is a great build for those who like a slightly stiffer ski on the water, particularly heavier paddlers. Not available in the Nemesis. Premium Our Premium build is a full carbon and kevlar construction, for those who wish to have the strongest and stiffest ski available. We can also offer a feature carbon or hybrid cloth through a clear gel coat finish if desired.
